United Church in TallahasseeUnited Church in Tallahassee

No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.

WHO ARE WE?

UCT is a local congregation of the United Church of Christ. We are a progressive Christian church that welcomes questions and doubts. We believe that we are all on the same journey and have people from a variety of faith perspectives and backgrounds coming together to explore what it means to be Christian in today’s world, to be nurtured in God’s spirit, and to serve others.

We join the great body of the Church Universal in affirming:
  • the creativity and love of God
  • the Bible as our inspired word (taken seriously, but not literally)
  • Jesus Christ as Example and Way Show-er
  • the sacraments of baptism and Holy Communion
  • the church as the family of God in the world
  • support for those seeking to be God’s servants

We believe God is active in the life of the church and all people through the power of the Holy Spirit. We believe that “God is still speaking” and that every person is loved by God and worthy to be an active, vibrant and generous participant in the Body of Christ, the church. We honor and appreciate all of the historic creeds of the Christian church and we encourage everyone to actively participate in all aspects of our church family — whether they are members or not.

The Rev. Brenda Dowell and Rev. Dr. Mark Dowell have been in ministry together throughout their years of marriage. They have served churches in Louisiana and Tennessee, and are now happy to be serving in Florida at UCT, a warm and welcoming church.

Rev. Brenda holds an M.Div. from Sewanee and has received awards in theology and ethics. Brenda has a B.S. in biology with a minor in chemistry. She is a dynamic speaker and loves combining science and faith to share deeper truths.

Rev. Dr. Mark holds an M.Div. and doctorate degree from Sewanee and is also a dynamic speaker. Dr. Mark's doctoral thesis was Art and Meditation and its Effects on Self-Esteem. He is also a certified Reiki practitioner.

The co-pastors believe in a radical hospitality and that EVERYONE is welcome at the table.

A Welcome To All

A Welcome To All

We are a church that takes Jesus’ command to “love one another” seriously. We are a welcoming church, open and affirming to the LGBT community and accessible to all who seek to worship with us and join the journey of faith. We expect diversity and look for it in people and ideas. We believe that “God is still speaking” and that every person is loved by God and worthy to be an active, vibrant, and generous participant in the Body of Christ, the church.
