MID-WEEK STUDIES

From time to time UCT offers mid-week studies. Sometimes a member will lead a study about a book that they want others to read and discuss. During Advent and Lent we often provide mid-week studies. For example, we discussed Karen Armstrong’s “New Interpretation of Genesis” in 2007 and Borg/Crossan’s “The Last Week” in 2008. For 2010 we listened to 6 interviews with inspiring people of faith (not necessarily Christians) and discussed the implications for our own faith journeys.

SEMINARS AND FORUMS

UCT has sponsored seminars and forums for our own members as well as the general public on several occasions. In 2002 we held a forum to discuss the proposed invasion of Iraq. We had a diverse panel which included a Muslim and someone committed to non-violence. In 2003 we hosted a public forum on Free Trade with speakers representing rural social movements from US, Brazil, and Ecuador. In 2009 we hosted a forum with the Immokalee Farm Workers. We have also had a public screening of two provocative documentaries.

Pastor Nancy Dahlberg

Pastor Nancy Dahlberg

I began my ministry at UCT in March 2010, after serving a UCC church in Central Pennsylvania for ten years. My core values as a pastor are these:

  • I believe that each person is unique and valuable. It is the will of God that every person belongs to a family of faith where they have a strong sense of being valued and loved.
  • I believe that each person is on a spiritual journey and that each of us is at a different stage of that journey.
  • I believe in the “possibility of people.” In the UCC, members, congregations, and structures have the breathing room to explore and to hear ... for after all, God is still speaking.
A Welcome To All

A Welcome To All

We are a church that takes Jesus’ command to “love one another” seriously. We are a welcoming church, open and affirming to the LGBT community and accessible to all who seek to worship with us and join the journey of faith. We expect diversity and look for it in people and ideas. We believe that “God is still speaking” and that every person is loved by God and worthy to be an active, vibrant, and generous participant in the Body of Christ, the church.
